Oxford-based singer-songwriter Dolly Mavies has made headlines after refusing to perform on Monday 11 August 2025 upon learning the event was to entertain the visiting Vice President of the United States.

“Morals are more important than money. Being a musician offers a platform to share stories and our perspectives of the world, good and bad. I champion human rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and support the voices of those often silenced. For me, performing is about connection, authenticity, and integrity.”

The decision aligns with Dolly’s history of weaving political and social consciousness into her music, and long-standing belief that music is a powerful platform for truth-telling and social commentary. Her song Drown Me Out, from her acclaimed debut album The Calm and The Storm, was written as a protest piece in response to the turbulent political climate in the UK and US in 2016. Dolly continues to champion having a voice, using that voice, and standing up for what she believes in.

While headlines swirl around her decision, Dolly is looking ahead to her next single release, In Your Head, on 3 October 2025 and will be celebrated with a special live performance at The Old Fire Station, Oxford on the day of release. The track is taken from her highly anticipated forthcoming album, set for release in Spring 2026.
